Vincent (Vince) K. Shier, Ph.D., is a partner in the firm's Chemical Patent Prosecution practice group, as well as being a member of the firm’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings and Life Sciences practice groups. As a prosecuting attorney, Dr. Shier’s work involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications in diversified technologies within the chemical and biotechnology disciplines.
A significant amount of Dr. Shier’s work is focused on working directly with small to mid-sized companies. To this end, Dr. Shier provides counsel and strategic guidance to develop patent portfolios with a focus on placing the company in the best position to protect their corporate interests and gain a competitive advantage.
As post-grant challenges at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) have gained popularity, Dr. Shier has gained experience with contested proceedings in court and at the USPTO.
Dr. Shier obtained his bachelor’s degrees in Biology and in Chemistry from the University of Rochester, his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in Biological Chemistry, and his Juris Doctor from George Washington University Law School.
