Dr. Koziol is an attorney in the Chemical Patent Prosecution practice group and specializes in the preparation and prosecution of chemical patent applications. He has substantial experience in process and industrial chemistries, petrochemistry, and polymers. He is also experienced in drafting pharmaceutical applications for small-molecule and biological therapies. Dr. Koziol’s prosecution experience spans a wide range of technologies, including the integration of AI with engineering applications, semiconductor fabrication and process chambers, medical devices, microfluidic biosensors, direct air capture, HVAC systems, foods and beverages, microbial chemical synthesis, and nutraceuticals.

Prior to attending law school, Dr. Koziol spent six years as a chemist at a major energy company, focusing on applying nanoporous materials, including zeolites and metal organic frameworks (MOFs), to catalytic refining and gas separation applications.

Dr. Koziol completed a postdoc at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he focused on developing and applying advanced computational methods, for applications including biomimetic catalysts for post-combustion carbon capture and high-throughput screening of small-molecule antibiotic candidates.

Dr. Koziol’s doctoral research focused on fundamental studies of excited states in organic molecules, non-covalent interactions, and numerical methods for the simulation of infrared and photoelectron spectroscopies.
