Marina I. Miller, Ph.D., is a partner in the Chemical Patent Prosecution group. She has extensive experience in patent application preparation and all aspects of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution and appeals in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical, physics and engineering fields.

Dr. Miller consults clients on development and management of IP portfolios and associated IP issues; provides opinions on invalidity, infringement, and freedom to operate; and conducts due diligence evaluations and pre-litigation counselling. She has experience in litigation of pharmaceutical patents.

Prior to joining Oblon, Dr. Miller served as a Patent Examiner in the field of bioinformatics with the USPTO. She also worked as a law clerk and scientific advisor in a leading national law firm with an emphasis on client counseling and litigation in matters involving pharmaceutical compounds and formulations.

Before attending law school, Dr. Miller obtained her Ph.D. in molecular biology/biochemistry from the All Union Research Institute of Genetics and Selection of Industrial Microorganisms in Moscow, Russia. She also holds a master’s degree in physics from the Moscow Physics-Engineering Institute. Dr. Miller is the author of 32 scientific publications and is named as an inventor on issued patents worldwide. She earned her Juris doctor from the University Of Maryland School Of Law and is fluent in Russian.
